There is no "magic mirror on the wall" that is literally the entire point of the piece. You are employing the same straw man, as I specifically argue in my piece. There is no need to appeal to "magic" there is only the scientific and intellectually honest appreciation that reductionism has utterly failed and today's paradigm is incapable of solving nature's hard problems.
