The First Step in Any Creative Act Should be to Build the Whole Thing
The first step in any creative act should be to build the whole thing.
People get caught up ruminating over what the first step should be. This sets them up for false determinism, bad learning and poor creative outcomes.
Always start by making the naive attempt to build the whole thing. This will create gaps, as you inevitably fail to create an entire entity in one go. Those gaps are critical to your learning and success.
Importantly, these gaps cannot be manifested any other way. There is no way to perceive them beforehand.
There is only one decision. You either build or you do not build. Every other aspect of the creative effort is automatic to the mind, and the flow of craftsmanship.
The first *and only* step in any creative act should be to build the whole thing.
