The biggest contribution science has made to human progress is convincing man he can explain, control and predict his natural surroundings.

Such a narrative is almost entirely false, but it invigorates man to make attempts he would otherwise not take.

These attempts produce something wholly unexpected, and utterly disconnected from the theories and hypotheses professed from the onset. Nevertheless, discoveries ensue.

Science immediately claims ownership on said discoveries, not in any honest way, which would recount only the awe of nature’s unpredictable disclosure, but through self-attribution, overestimated agency and illusory causation.

Man continues in his self-delusion, inventing more theories and charging ahead. He stirs the pot ever more rigorously, teasing out new unforeseens, again claiming they are of his original designs.

And so we achieve more. We progress in our technology and wisdom, fueled by our belief in fantasy.

Our own Quixotism, flush with the relentless pursuit of false ideals and the added bonus of useful consequences.

Science brings progress because we believe it is something it is not.
